Lucky lottery winners will be selected to purchase aNintendo Switch 2through the company’s proprietary My Nintendo Shop, but updated information shows that those orders might not arrive on the console’s launch day, June 5.Switch 2 pre-orders have been a disasterso far in the United States, with retailer websites collapsing under the heavy traffic of hopeful customers, and this latest update from Nintendo is just the latest setback in the saga.

According toNintendo’s page on how to buy the Switch 2 (viaNintendo Life), an update has been provided regarding release-day delivery:“Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed.“This is for those who have registered to enter the My Nintendo Store lottery, the results of which are being announced May 8.

Nintendo Switch 2 Docked And Handheld

However, not everyone who has been chosen will receive their confirmation email on May 8. According to Nintendo, “Your invitation email [to purchase a Switch 2 from Nintendo] may arrive after the Nintendo Switch 2 launch. We’ll confirm your shipping date upon purchase.”

Nintendo Switch 2 Demand Is High

Supply Is Limited

This update may be disappointing to those who missed out on a retail pre-order (and are therefore banking on the My Nintendo Store lottery), but it’s not necessarily surprising. Just recently, a similar occurrence happened whereSwitch 2 demand couldn’t be met in Japan, and Nintendo promised a second lottery would be held.Subsequent lottery picks through the My Nintendo Store could be happening in the U.S. as well, since the website says Nintendo “will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available.”

For those interested, this last bit is important: “If you wish to continue waiting for your invitation from My Nintendo Store, no further action is required after registering your interest.” Although this isn’t outright confirmation,it certainly sounds like Nintendo will continue to reserve a certain portion of Switch 2 units for the My Nintendo Store, and reach out to eligible purchasers when more stock becomes available, even afterSwitch 2 launch day.

Consumers May Want To Buy Switch 2 Elsewhere

Keep An Eye On Retailers

The ongoing stock through the My Nintendo Store is luckily passive – Nintendo will email you if you’ve been selected – but those eager to get a Switch 2 as soon as possible will want to pay attention to retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The initial wave of Switch 2 units likely sold out shortly after pre-orders were opened, butSwitch 2 manufacturing is presumably continuing well through the console’s release date, so there may be restocks that happen relatively soon.

It may take a significant amount of luck, but you may be able to get your hands on a Switch 2 through a retailer more easily than the My Nintendo Store lottery, especially if you’re not the primary account on a Nintendo Switch Online family plan, which is being favored in the lottery picks. Shopping through a retailer does, of course, have plenty of issues, namely scalpers, bots, and website errors, but that’s unfortunately the reality of shopping for new, high-demand goods like theNintendo Switch 2.
