WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for The Bear season 4.
Will Poulter’s exciting return in FX’sThe Bearseason 4 is completely justified given Carmy’s unbelievable decision in the season finale episode. Poulter, an English actor who rose to prominence after starring in movies such asWe’re the MillersandMaze Runner, first appeared inThe Bearseason 2, episode 4, “Honeydew,” which is often considered one of thegreatest episodes ofThe Bearever made. Marcus, played by Lionel Boyce, is given an opportunity to train under Carmy’s culinary peer, Luca (Poulter), and travels to Copenhagen, where his skills are refined and passion is reinvigorated.
After becoming a fan-favorite guest star inThe Bearseason 2, Poulter returned forThe Bearseason 3 in both the premiere and finale episodes. He was featured in an extended flashback scene when Carmy and Luca worked at the same restaurant in season 3, episode 1, and returns for the season 3 finale to commemorate the closing of Chef Terry’s legendary restaurant, played by Olivia Colman.Poulter’s Luca becomes much more of a series regularin the recently releasedThe Bearseason 4, appearing in four of 10 episodes after his surprise introduction in episode 5.

Luca Becoming A Stage At The Bear Justifies His Continued Presence In The Show
He Is Driven By Legacy & Perfection Which Makes Him A Perfect Fit
Considering that Chef Luca was introduced to the series in Copenhagen, it was getting a tad unbelievable that he’d keep coming back to Chicago and spending so much time with Carmy and the crew at The Bear. Having himbecome a stage for The Bear because he can’t live without intense pressureand needs it to excel at his craft justifies his continued return and increased screen time inThe Bearseason 4.
Luca is cut from the same cloth as Carmy and is motivated by perfection and legacy more than money and taking the easy route to success, which makes him a perfect fit at The Bear.

Even though Luca is a world-renowned chef like Carmy, he and Carmy are cut from the same cloth and are motivated by perfection and legacy more than money and taking the easy route to success, which makes him a perfect fit at The Bear.
Richie was told multiple times inThe Bearseason 4 to stop hiring new employees in order for the restaurant to improve their monthly financial numbers.Luca selflessly agrees to be a stage at The Bear, a position that is essentially equivalent to having an unpaid internship at a large or prestigious company.
Luca is about as far beyond an entry-level position in a professional kitchen as one can be, but he agrees to join The Bear because of who he is and what he’s after in his career. Surely,Luca won’t be staging at The Bear forever, but the fact that he’s willing to sacrifice the compensation he deserves for the betterment of the restaurant speaks volumes about his character.
Will Luca Become A Full-Time Employee In The Bear Season 5?
Carmy Leaving The Bear Creates A Great Opportunity For Luca
With the announcement that Carmy is leaving The Bear in the season 4 finale, Chef Luca would naturally fill his spot in the kitchen. Next to Sydney, and arguably Marcus, Luca is the most talented chef at The Bear now that Carmy is no longer a part of it.It would make a lot of sense if Luca ended up becoming the new co-head chefnext to Sydney at The Bear, even though he may want to continue his culinary pursuits in another environment. There are subtle sparks of a romance between him and Sydney, which could also motivate him to stay and help Sydney adjust to Carmy’s absence.
Luca, however, may be deterred by the behind-the-scenes chaos that frequently happens at The Bear from sticking around for very long. He may try his best to help as The Bear transitions without Carmy, buthe also may not want to get too attached to the dysfunctional restaurant.
No matter what, Luca’s appearance in nearly half ofThe Bearseason 4 episodes establishes him much more firmly in the main series cast.
Instead, he could assist Sydney, Richie, Marcus, and the crew insetting a new tone for the restaurant that could flourish without Carmy’s intensity. No matter what, Luca’s appearance in nearly half ofThe Bearseason 4 episodes establishes him much more firmly in the main series cast. He should have a similar, if not increased, role in a potential fifth season ofThe Bear.
