Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently confirmed that HBO’sHarry Potterseries will be released over an entire decade after its first season debuts in 2027, which sounds much worse than it actually is.

While there’s certainly been a great deal of buzz – both positive and negative – around the series since it was first announced in January 2021, the series is poised to be a more thorough and potentially accurateadaptation of the belovedHarry Potterbooks.

With filming officially underway and severalnotable cast members revealed, the hype continues to grow around the monumental series, which will not only be viciously compared to the original books by avid fans but also to the celebrated 8-part movie series as well.

The Harry Potter Movie Franchise Also Took 10 Years To Complete

A decade sounds like a very long time at face value, but for seven seasons of hopefully phenomenal television, it’s really not long at all. Take Netflix’s hit sci-fi seriesStranger Things, for example, which will have only released five seasons by the time it wraps up at the end of 2025.

Also, compared to the movie series, the timeline between the first and last installments of HBO’s TV adaptation is virtually identical.Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stonedebuted in 2001, withHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2coming out in 2011.

Part of the fun of the movie series was anticipating both the new book and film releases. When theHarry Potter and the Half-Blood Princenovel came out in July 2005, theHarry Potter and the Goblet of Firemovie was still months away from being released in November of that year.

The Harry Potter TV Show Will Adapt More In A Decade Than The Movies

Based on the increased length of eachHarry PotterHBO season, there will be more actual content released in that upcoming decade compared to the more limited movie lengths. While the number of episodes has yet to be confirmed forHarry Potterseason 1, it’s safe to speculate that it will, at the very least, have at least four episodes with roughly 1-hour runtimes a piece.

Another interesting point is the 10-year timeframe for seven active seasons of television. The latter Harry Potter books are much longer than the first three, which average about 264 pages each. The first three books combined total just above the page count forThe Order of the Phoenixalone at 766 pages.Seasons 5 through 7 may span over two seasons, or one season split in half(similar toWednesdayseason 2).

Ultimately, there will be moreHarry Pottercontent within the expected 10-year timeframe than there was for the span of the movie series, which is something all Wizarding World fans can get excited about.
