Sam Scale’s murder trial is Mickey’s case most personal case since he’s the defendant, and he needs as much support as possible from his loved ones. Bosch shows up for Mickey by offering him bail money, investigative help, but also just moral support. He doesn’t see Mickey in prison because neither he nor Mickey can mentally handle that. Still, Bosch shows Mickey that he loves him throughout the book, never verbalizing it but making it pretty clear. Similarly, Mickey might need Bosch’s investigative expertise, but he also just appreciates his half-brother’s help.
