The Officestar Ed Helms reveals whether audiences can expect Andy Bernard to return in the upcoming reboot. Helms made his debut as the hot-headed Andy back in season 3 of the hit NBC sitcom, ultimately sticking around until the series finale in 2013. Now, showrunner Greg Daniels is set to helm areboot ofThe Officereportedly calledThe Paper, which chronicles the daily operations of a failing Midwestern newspaper, with Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore set to star.
During a recent interview onThe View(viaTV Insider), Helms is asked whether he will be reprising his role as Andy inThe Officereboot, andthe actor reveals that he hasn’t yet been asked back. Check out his comment below:

“I have zero intel on that, I’m sorry to say. And I also don’t know yet if Andy will be making an appearance. I haven’t heard. No one’s called.”
Helms does say, however, thathe “hopes” his character makes a return in the new show, before he then praises Daniels as showrunner:

“I’m just gonna float that energy out there right now. Greg Daniels is making this show. It’s gonna be great. It’s gonna be incredible.”
What This Means For The Office Reboot
Andy Was A Divisive Character
So far, only one originalThe Officecastmember is confirmed to be returning for the reboot, and that’s Oscar Nuñez’s Oscar Martinez. Oscar spent much of the original series working in Dunder Mifflin’s accounting department before then making the jump into politics by the end of the show. No details have been released just yet about Oscar’s role in the reboot ofThe Office, butthe lack of additional legacy cast member returns could speak to the show’s focus on new charactersas a result of its shift in location.
Andy was a series regular starting withThe Officeseason 3, working his way from sales into a management position in season 8.Andy’s storyline in the show became divisive in the last two seasons, especially after he took over as managerfollowing the departure of Steve Carell’s Michael Scott in season 7. It’s not clear if the divisiveness over Andy as a character will have any impact on his potential return in the upcoming reboot.

Nuñez recently revealedthatThe Officereboot is currently in the editing stage, which could mean that it premieres later this year.
Our Take On Andy’s Potential Return In The Office Reboot
The Reboot Should Prioritize Its New Characters
AndyendedThe Officeas a fairly different character from how he started. Andy was intended to be somewhat annoying and hot-headed in those first few seasons, butputting him center stage as manager and morphing some of his character traits ultimately resulted in a character who became frustratingly unlikable by the end. This was partly an Andy problem, but it’s clear that Carell’s departure left a vacuum that would have been impossible for any character to adequately fill.
While it would still be interesting to catch up with Andy all these years later, the reboot could be making a wise choice by focusing mostly on the new cast. If the reboot ofThe Officeis to last, after all, audiences will need to fall in love with the new characters. If season 1 is a hit, this could open the door for more character returns down the line. Helms certainly seems up for it.
