The Snake, Fox’s newest reality TV competition from Jersey Shore creator SallyAnn Salsano, has one of the best reality TV villains I’ve seen in years in Kethryn Cavender, who’s piquing my interest for one specific reason. Kethryn, who joined the cast ofThe Snakeseason 1along with several others who have been described as master manipulators, has been open on the show about knowing how to push people’s buttons. The conceit ofThe Snakeis simple: one person gains power as the Snake each week, and in a chain reaction, others are chosen to remain safe until someone’s eliminated.

WhileThe Snake’sconcept is simple, the inner workings of the game have proven to be incredibly complicated, even after just a couple of episodes. With some contestants coming into the game being honest about who they are and what they’re doing, others like Kethryn have chosen chaos, lying about everything in order to make themselves seem like the best possible person to align with.Kethryn, a tech manager from New York, has been dominating the game socially, and with her strategic ability to move through the crowd of the game with a stealth ease, she’s already winning everyone over.

The Snake’s Conceit Allows Kethryn To Shine

She Can Be Strategic Or Shrink Into The Background

AlthoughFox’snew series,The Snake, has introduced several fun new reality TV faces,Kethryn is the one who’s excelling when it comes to the game itself. The Snake’sconceit is simple to understand, but there are some who simply wouldn’t be able to work through the manipulation and deceit that it requires. AsThe Snakeseason 1 has progressed, it’s become clear that it take a lot of mental fortitude to play through the game and continually lie to the people around you. With the role of the Snake changing each week, the contestants have to make quick decisions.

Those quick decisions ensure that the Snake themselves will choose someone they’re close to or want to work with to keep safe in the Saving Ceremony each week. The Snake is the most powerful person in the game, having the opportunity to choose their first cast mate to keep safe, and having the responsibility to choose who goes home between the final two players standing at each tough Saving Ceremony. With so much power, the responsibility to play well throughout every aspect of the game is important, as having the right relationships keeps you safe when you aren’t the Snake.

Kethryn’s List Of Manipulation Tactics Is Genius

She Created A Guide For Herself

DuringThe Snake’sexciting first episode, Kethryn revealed some of the strategies she hopes to employ during the game. Explaining that she’s sat down and made a list of everything she could do in order to befriend and manipulate the other players,Kethryn pulled out a list on her phone of over 50 ideas of ways she could manipulate, strategize, and manufacture relationshipsthat kept her safe. Thinking so deeply about the game and the ways she could ensure that others find her amenable, interesting, and worth saving makes it clear Kethryn ison another level of reality TV villain.

Kethryn’s Lapping The Rest Of The Snake Cast Easily So Far

While there have only been a few episodes ofThe Snakeso far,Kethryn has easily been lapping the other contestants on the series. Lying from the very beginning,Kethryn has been doing a great jobat building connections with the cast members, forging details and ensuring that people find her to be someone they want to work with. Taking others' priorities, interests, weaknesses, and strengths into consideration, Kethryn has been playing on an entirely different level than the others. While some have been doing a decent job, Kethryn has been ensuring thatThe Snakemakes her reality TV gold.
