Andoris one of the bestStar Warsprojects of all time, and is rightfully getting its praise, but showrunner Tony Gilroy thinks fans should also be watching anotherStar WarsTV show.Andorwas special because it was very boots-on-the-ground and focused on the everyday people of theRebel Alliance, not the Jedi.

In fact,Andorbecame the first and onlyStar Warsshow not to feature a lightsaber. This focus on the “little” guy helped ground the show and made it feel more relatable. While everyone dreamed of growing up to be Luke Skywalker,Andorreminded us that regular people can be just as important to a cause, like fighting the Empire.

ThoughAndorconnected well to otherStar Warstitles, it wasn’t overly concerned with the “lore” of the greaterStar Warsgalaxy. It fit in where it needed to, but there was no need to continue building on stories that audiences already knew and had heard. There were no gratuitous cameos, and the only fan service came in the form of good storytelling.

There’s one show, however, thatAndorshowrunner Tony Gilroy thinks fans should also watch, and it may be surprising.

Tony Gilroy Loves Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

Probably For The Same Reason Fans Love Andor

Star Wars: Skeleton Crewwas a fun adventure that brought back the magic of the galaxywhile still telling a compelling story about coming of age and finding one’s place in the galaxy.

In a recent issue ofEmpire Magazine, Tony Gilroy stated that he likedSkeleton Crewbecause“I like how committed it is to its tone, and it seems really well done.”

Gilroy’s position onSkeleton Crewshouldn’t be surprising. Similar toAndor,Skeleton Crewsticks with one tone throughout. It’s worth noting that these two shows are very different in terms of their tone, but they are both consistent, making for cohesive storytelling. Additionally, both shows focus on their characters and their development.

Skeleton Crew Is Nothing Like Andor… & That’s What Makes It Great

It Is Its Own Thing

Star Warsis far-reaching when it comes to the types of storytelling that are possible, andSkeleton Crewbeing tonally different fromAndorshows that. These two stories take place in the same galaxy, but are totally different.

Skeleton Crew told a narrow story that wasn’t overly concerned or weighed down by the burden of Star Wars lore, just like Andor.

It’s easy to see why Tony Gilroy enjoys a story likeSkeleton Crew. The show, created bySpider-Mandirector Jon Watts, is committedto its own style and bright aesthetic.Skeleton Crewtold a narrow story that wasn’t overly concerned or weighed down by the burden ofStar Warslore, just likeAndor.

Both Tony Gilroy and Jon Watts set out to tell a particular storythat just so happened to exist within theStar Warsuniverse. While other shows have been so focused on connecting to otherStar Warstitles,Skeleton Crewdidn’t need to, because the story didn’t call for it.

ThoughSkeleton Crewis tonally different, fans of the form ofAndorwill definitely appreciate the storytelling and commitment to aesthetics, just like Tony Gilroy does.
