Toonami has had a large thumbprint in American late-night television over the years. It has mainly focused on broadcasting Japanese anime, but recently it has dipped its toe into video games, reviewing games likeGhosts of Tsushima. And while that particular title seems to fit the general theme of the television programming channel quite well, a recent review ofPGA TOUR 2K21shows that Toonami is continuing to branch out.

The brand new golfing simulator has received decent reception, withGame Rant givingPGA TOUR 2K21a 7/10. Toonami isn’t far off with its thoughts on the golfing game developed by HB Studios, as it gave the game an 8/10.

The intriguing part about the Toonami reviews is that they happen within the construct of the channel itself. Toonami is narrated by the wisecracking TOM, from his spaceship alongside A.I. SARA. And the video game reviews are handled by this same duo. So when talking aboutPGA TOUR 2K21, SARA is placing bets on whether or not TOM will slice his shot, and TOM is trying to pinpoint his approach shots for one-putt finishes (but failing to do so).

When it comes to the review timing, the video was posted only a couple of days ago, and the full game was released in August. So the review may be with some of the recent updates forPGA TOUR 2K21. The game launched as a full-fledged experience, but there is a lot still planned in terms of post-launch content.

The short and sweet review set-up for these Toonami videos is interesting and fun.Toonami recently reviewedThe Last of Us Part 2, and the commentary is surprisingly nuanced, with comments on trigger warnings or how spoilers should be avoided when leading up to such a story-driven game. The opinions of TOM and SARA seem to be worth taking into consideration.

PGA Tour 2K21is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
