Pilou Asbaek and Ralph Ineson are two actors who played memorable supporting roles inGame of Thrones.Asbaek starred as Euron Greyjoy in the show’s final three seasons, the returning Greyjoy uncle who arrives in Westeros to stir up chaos, ending the series as one of its most divisive villains.
Ralph Ineson, who’s set to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the supervillain Galactus, also had a run inGame of Thronesseason 2, playing the Ironborn named Dagmer.Dagmer was a supporter of Theon Greyjoy during his return to Winterfell, supporting him as he claimed the Stark castle for the Iron Islands.

InFoundationseason 3’s premiere, which critics and audiences have already praised,these two excellent actors appear for a violent face-off. Asbaek plays a villain character named the Mule, who isn’t dissimilar to Euron Greyjoy in the role they play in each other’s respective book series. Ineson plays Warlord Bellarion, an original character to the show.
It’s always enjoyable to see actors reuniting in new projects, especially when they played such similar characters inGame of Thrones. Not to mention, seeing two actors who are fantastic at playing menacing men have a deadly face-off is always a joy to witness.
Euron & Dagmer Were Both Wasted In Game Of Thrones
Neither Character Lived Up To Their Book Potential
As a huge fan of theA Song of Ice & Firenovelsand theFoundationseries,one of my primary wishes for season 3 is to give Pilou Asbaek some solid material. HisGame of Thronescharacter was one I was particularly excited for leading into season 6, and he ended up being a shell of his novel counterpart.
Euron Greyjoy was intended to be a Lovecraftian villain, fascinated by warlocks, dark magic, and whose most significant threat was his profound charisma. The TV show’s counterpart was more of a one-note villain. The same can be said for Dagmer. InA Clash of Kings, his character is built up as a renowned warlord.
InGame of Thronesseason 2,Dagmer is unfortunately subjected to being the character who follows Theon around and gives him advice. His book counterpart goes off and lays a distraction siege of his own, using his reputation to allow Theon to capture Winterfell. It’s enjoyable to see these two share a scene inFoundation.
