New details aboutFast & Furious 11suggest that the franchise’s final movie will ruin the ending of 2023’sFast X. Since theending ofFast Xincluded a major cliffhanger, most fans assumed that there was a plan for the final movie in the long-running series. However, after the release ofFast Xin May 2023, there were no updates on theupcomingFast & Furious 11for a long time.
The lack of updates aboutFast & Furious 11made many fans concerned about the franchise, with some even thinking the movie might never get made. However, thankfully, franchise star Vin Diesel recently revealed somenew details aboutFast & Furious 11’sstory. Appearing at FuelFest in June 2025, Diesel confirmed that the series' next movie will feature Brian O’Conner and a lot of street racing.

Additionally, the actor announced thatFast & Furious 11will be released in April 2027. Therefore, over two years after the release ofFast X, fans finally have something to look forward to. However, based on these details,it seems likeFast & Furious 11might ruin the cliffhanger ending ofFast X.
Fast & Furious 11’s Early Details Suggest It’s Mostly Ignoring Fast X’s Cliffhanger
Fast & Furious 11 Will Seemingly Be More Grounded
Initially,it seemed likeFast Xwas designed to be the first part of a larger story that was meant to end the popular franchise. In press interviews before the release ofFast X, even Diesel made it sound like this was the case. Because of this, I didn’t mind the movieending on a cliffhanger. In fact, it made me even more excited about the franchise’s final film.
At the end ofFast X, Dom and his son, Little B, survive a dam explosion, but are surrounded by water and know Dante won’t stop coming after them. Additionally,it was suggested that major characters like Roman, Tej, Ramsey, and Han died in a plane crash. Furthermore, the ending of the tenth film featured the returns of bothDwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbsand Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar.

Therefore, practically every storyline inFast Xended on a cliffhanger. However, it unfortunately doesn’t seem like things will be properly resolved inFast & Furious 11. With these new details about the plot of the final film,it is now clearer than ever that there was never a solid plan in place forFast & Furious 11before the release ofFast X, which is why the film has been in development for so long.
Obviously, the next movie will have to deal withFast X’scliffhanger to some degree. However, based on Diesel’s claim thatFast & Furious 11will be set in Los Angeles, it doesn’t seem like it will pick up immediately after the cliffhanger. If I had to guess,Fast X’sending will be resolved in some brief flashback scenes, which would be disappointing.
IfFast & Furious 11does indeed move on from the cliffhanger very quickly, it will confirm that it was never really that important in the first place. This will makeFast Xmuch worse on a rewatch, since it is one of the only films in the series that ends on a cliffhanger, and negatively affect the overall impact of the franchise’s conclusion.
Fast 11 Could Make Fast X’s Cliffhanger One Of The Franchise’s Worst Decisions
Fast X’s Cliffhanger Has Created Many Obstacles
Even thoughthe dramatic cliffhanger was somewhat exciting whenFast Xwas first released, it has become clear that it could end up being one of the franchise’s worst decisions.Fast Xnever should have ended on a cliffhanger if Diesel and the rest of the creative team didn’t have a solid idea forFast & Furious 11.
It’s now obviously far too late to go back and change the ending ofFast X, butFast & Furious 11could at least attempt to address it in a satisfying manner. In a perfect world, the next movie would pick up right after the ending ofFast Xand show all the characters reuniting. In particular, it at least needs to show how Roman, Tej, Ramsey, and Han survive the plane crash, rather than just including a time jump and having them be safe in Los Angeles.
Instead of properly continuing the story of the franchise, it honestly seems like Diesel is uninterested in the over-the-top ending ofFast Xand instead wants to return to the franchise’s roots.
Picking up right after the events ofFast Xdoes pose a problem, since the actor who plays Little B is now much older. This would be distracting, but the creative team should have thought about this when they were filmingFast X. Overall, even though some of Diesel’s announcements are exciting,it’s ridiculous to expect fans to simply sit back and enjoy a movie that doesn’t properly resolveFast X’scliffhanger ending.
Unfortunately, it seems like this is exactly what Diesel expects fans to do. Instead of properly continuing the story of the franchise,it honestly seems like Diesel is uninterested in the over-the-top ending ofFast Xand instead wants to return to the franchise’s roots. On one hand, this is understandable, especially since fans have been asking for more street racing for years.
However, moving on from the cliffhanger so quickly will be doing a major disservice toFast X, which is actually one of the best films in the franchise. Personally, dismissingFast X’sending could ruinFast & Furious 11for me, which is a shame since I want a satisfying conclusion. Overall, these new details aboutFast & Furious 11truly make it seem like endingFast X on acliffhanger will age terribly, and make me less inclined to revisit the franchise in the future.
