The first trailer forMarty Supremeis out now, and the new A24 movie, oddly enough, starsShark Tank’s Mr. Wonderful. The upcoming ping-pong movie will star Timothée Chalamet as the titular Marty Mauser. While all kinds of other talented actors will appear in the film, it’s the appearance of Kevin O’Leary that is the most surprising.
ThroughoutMarty Supreme’s first trailer, viewers are introduced to the story of a ping-pong prodigy who dreams of greatness and does whatever it takes to achieve it. Seeing Chalamet and Paltrow a lot makes sense, but theShark Tankveteran is an unexpected inclusion. While he’s appeared on plenty of reality TV shows, he’s never acted in a film before.

O’Leary receives fourth billing in the trailer, indicating that he will be a massive part of the movie and its marketing campaign. The businessman and reality star stepping into a feature film acting role like this adds another level of intrigue toMarty Supreme, especially with how it looks like the movie will utilize him.
Marty Supreme Could Show A Totally New Side Of Kevin O’Leary
Very little is known about O’Leary’s character inMarty Supremebeyond what the trailer includes. He seems to be playing an antagonistic role in the film, with Marty arguing with him throughout the trailer about his future success. Since none of the other characters in the trailer act like this, O’Leary is seemingly playing the movie’s main villain.
That could be a fitting role for theShark Tankveteran. Despite his “Mr. Wonderful” nickname from the show, he’s often tough and critical of young entrepreneurs. His character appears to have a similar relationship with and view of Marty Mauser, which could make his casting a stroke of genius.

The Safdie Brothers are notable for directing non-actors in their previous works, famously directing NBA starKevin Garnett to give an acclaimed performance inUncut Gems. The casting of O’Leary proves that Josh Safdie will be continuing this trend, and from the looks of it, this casting might be another success.
O’Leary is not alone in this new venture.Marty Supremecinematographer Darius Khondji has said thatthe film will feature around 140 non-actors(viaVariety), including Abel Ferrara, magician Penn Jillette, and French highwire artist Philippe Petit. Safdie is taking some big swings with individuals who aren’t known for being in front of the camera.
O’Leary already seems to be doing a fantastic job in this role, and while a tough guy businessman may not be far off from hisShark Tankpersona, it will be interesting to see him play someone besides himself. If the final result is as good as the trailer looks,Marty Supremecould launch a new career for the prolific TV star.
