Trackerseason 2 continues to depict Colter Shaw as an elite investigator who tackles missing persons cases and is rewarded for it. Shaw receives help from attorney Reenie Greene, computer scientist Bobby Exley, and handler Velma Bruin. Velma’s wife, Teddi Bruin, was a primary member ofColter Shaw’s teambefore she left after season 1. Out of all of Shaw’s partners in crime, Bruin is arguably the most impactful because she provides emotional support to him when necessary and expresses her sentimentality towards the people Shaw helps.
However, Velma’s role inTrackerseason 2has diminished compared to the first season due to Teddi’s absence and the increased partnership between Shaw and Randy, Bobby’s cousin. Randy’s role on Colter’s team elevated when Bobby was absent for a few episodes due to family matters. While Velma is extremely crucial in handling Colter’s operations, she, along with the other members of Shaw’s team, are secondary since Colter is the center of attention. ForTrackerseason 3,Velma and the other handlers need more depthto expand their roles in the show.

The Concept Of Colter’s Handlers In Tracker Never Quite Worked
Colter’s Supporting Players Need More Depth On The Show
Velma has been pivotal to Shaw’s workbecause she’s the backbone, helping Colter find jobs regarding missing persons cases. Velma also handles the financial aspects of Colter’s operation and gets him out of danger when he’s caught up in legal trouble. Reenie also helps get Shaw out of trouble from time to time, including bailing him out of prison, as well as providing her legal expertise to Colter when assisting him with certain cases. Although Reenie is primarily a lawyer, she isn’t fearful of placing herself in dangerous scenarios and standing up to authoritative figures like the police.
Bobby Exley is also a loyal companion to Shaw, including providing technical support, analyzing data, and hacking to retrieve vital informationColter needs to do his job. Randy also shares his cousin Bobby’s technical expertise while also displaying a more quirky and outgoing personality. While all the members of Shaw’s team each have an important role to play in Colter’s search for the missing, their characters need more depth on the show, including their backstories, rather than just aiding Shaw in his missions.

Despite Velma’s continued persistence in her work and her ability to collaborate with a new team player in Reenie, at her office, Velma’s role has become redundant at times. Velma may be crucial to Colter’s work both legally and financially, buther characterization lacks the spark she had in season 1with Teddi by her side. With several other handlers, like Reenie, Bobby, and Randy, in certain cases, Velma’s role appears diminished in the show’s sophomore season, raising questions about whether she’ll returnheading intoTrackerseason 3.
