Netflix Used CGI To Turn This 100-Year-Old Country Club Into The Kells' Home
The Kells' mansion inSirensdoubles as a wildlife reserve. Michaela is especially passionate about the aviary, where she cares for raptors and other large birds before releasing them into the wild. Scenes at the Kells' home were filmed at the Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, where the Caumsett estate was built in 1921. This mansion and ornate barn initially served as a country club and hunting preserve, but a century later, Caumsett became the primary filming location for Netflix’sSirens.
“Caumsett” is a Matinecock Indian word meaning “place by a sharp rock,” which is quite fitting forSirens,considering the eerie themes of sailors crashing to their deaths on the jagged stones.
The Caumsett barn was heavily doctored using CGI special effects to look like the modern mansion seen inSirens, but the bones of the place (pictured onThe Caumsett Foundationwebsite) are still recognizable. Michaela’s aviary was built temporarily on location, but the jagged cliffs of Caumsett were precisely as they needed to be to fit withSirens’eerie themes.

While the Caumsett Preserve was used to film scenes set outside the Kells' home inSirens, the indoor scenes were filmed predominantly at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, New York.It was here that the sets for the inside of the lavish mansion were constructed, along with all the priceless paintings, statues, and sculptures collected by the Kells.
Finally, Steiner Studios is where the set for Peter Kell’s lighthouse interior would have been constructed, with green screens and CGI doing the remaining work to bring Siren’s various settings to life.
