Based on a Broadway musical which is based on a novel which is ultimately based onThe Wizard of Oz, Wickedtells theorigin story of the Wicked Witch of the West.
BecauseWickedis based on so many different stories and forms, it isn’t entirely clear whatWicked: For Goodis going to look like.Wickeditself seemed to mostly stick to adapting the musical, though there were definitely brand-new moments that were added in or parts of Gregory Maguire’s book that provided more detail.Most likely,Wicked: For Goodwill follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, expanding where it’s necessary. In this case, there is one minor character that I hope we get even more of in the secondWickedmovie.

Dulcibear Was A Great Addition To 2024’s Wicked
One figure who should appear inWicked: For Goodis Dulcibear. In 2024’sWicked,Dulcibear was introduced as a talking bear who acted as Elphaba’s nannythroughout her childhood. Notably, Dulcibear wasn’t a part of Maguire’s book series or the musical; she wascreated specifically for theWickedmovie. In this way, Dulcibear should not be relegated to just a couple scenes in the first movie, but should get an expanded role inWicked: For Good.Dulcibear’s return could add a lot to the movie without creating too many changes to the overall plot.
Dulcibear played a small part in 2024’sWicked,but her existence actually has a large impact on the story. Because Elphaba loses her mother after the birth of Nessarose, she doesn’t have a maternal figure to guide her. Dulcibear fulfills that role, showing her kindness during a childhood marred by an absent father and hateful bullies. Furthermore,Dulcibear is vital because she helps establish Elphaba’s connection with animals.Elphaba already feels for them, because they are outsiders like her, but Dulcibear gives her a concrete reason to feel kindess towards Oz’s animals.

Dulcibear’s appearance in 2024’sWickedadded a lot to Elphaba’s story, and it could do the same inWicked: For Good.There is actually one scene in particular that could be incredible for Dulcibear. InWicked, Elphaba discovers thatDr. Dillamond, after being arrested by the Oz authorities, loses his ability to speak and becomes a regular goat. This moment could become even more emotional if Dulcibear is added to the mix.Perhaps Dulcibear is also captured and loses her voice alongside Dillamond, meaning Elphaba will lose yet another important figure.
As Elphaba’s reputation changes and Oz descends into madness, Dulcibear can be a solid reminder that Elphaba is not truly wicked, and more than that, that she is loved.
Really, Dulcibear would make any animal plotline inWicked: For Goodbetter. Dr. Dillamond is definitely a likable figure who audiences pity after his capture, butDulcibear might be able to evoke an even bigger emotional response. Dulcibear has been kind to Elphaba all her life, and a moment of reunion between them in the second movie could be incredibly meaningful. As Elphaba’s reputation changes and Oz descends into madness, Dulcibear can be a solid reminder that Elphaba is not truly wicked, and more than that, that she is loved.
What Dulcibear Could Bring To Wicked: For Good
Wicked Created Dulcibear For A Reason
Overall, there are many ways thatWicked: For Goodcould useDulcibear. She could act as a nostalgic figure for Elphaba, a fierce ally who supports her when no one else does, or even a source of information once Elphaba begins to wonder about her own origins and her childhood.Because of how much 2024’sWickedexpanded on the musical’s first half, it would only make sense that the sequel would do the same, which means there will be plenty of time for these small yet impactful moments. These could be some of the most emotional elements of the movie.

One more reason why Dulcibear should be used inWicked: For Good:the movie created her for a reason. It is true that Dulcibear’s mere existence helped strengthenWicked’splot, but it would be a shame to create an entire character with so much potential and not use her. In this way,it seems likely thatWickedhas a plan for Dulcibear, and it will finally come to fruition inWicked: For Good.
