However, a feature inThe War Withinfixes one of the biggest drawbacks of the camera inWorld of Warcraft. In one of the most recentbeta builds forWoW: The War Within, a new option to allow the view of the player character to be obstructed by the environment was added. When activated, the camera bypasses objects like trees and lamp posts, rather than colliding with them, zooming in the camera in the process. At present, this option can only be activated via a console command, though it will presumably be added to the game settings when it goes live.Wowhead captured footage of this setting, which it compared to the default full camera collision.

New Camera Collision Feature in WoW: The War Within

This new camera feature is a game changer. Right now, just about any physical object can cause the camera to zoom in and out sporadically; even small banners, signs, and other simple set dressings. This can be especially annoying when fighting challengingMythic dungeons inWoW, or when participating in PvP. With this option, fans can enjoy a more seamless view of their surroundings with much less disruption.

Of course, this feature still has its limitations. The camera cannot get behind solid objects like walls or buildings, and objects don’t turn translucent when players move behind them, meaning characters can easily become completely obscured. That said,World of Warcraftis adding another quality-of-life featurethat can show a character’s silhouette while hidden behind other objects. When paired with this new option, players should be able to keep track of their characters more easily than ever before.
