Yellowjacketsstar Melanie Lynskey has shared a disappointing update on her husband’s missing bonus episode, which was originally filmed during season 2. During production on season 2 of the thriller series, a standalone episode starring Jason Ritter was filmed. While it’s unclear who he was playing on thecast ofYellowjackets, the episode was originally meant to air prior to the start of season 3. However, as of writing, the episode has yet to be released, and there is no concrete information as to when it might come out.
Speaking withThe Awardistpodcast (viaEntertainment Weekly), Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna, brought up Ritter’s viral TikTok video “the arugula’s gone bad,” leading to a conversation about his lostYellowjacketsepisode. He’d filmed the video in Vancouver while there forthe episode, which she referred to as “lost to time,“implying its fate remains up in the air. Although she didn’t concretely say if the episode would ever come out, she said it didn’t air but that she’s not allowed to say who he portrayed. Check out what Lynskey had to say below:

We were staying there forYellowjackets— or maybe it was when he was doing his episode, and I was doing something else. His lost episode, lost to time or whatever…. He was in an episode ofYellowjacketsthat didn’t air… I’m definitely not allowed to say [who he played]. It was a standalone episode.
What Lynskey’s Update Means For Jason Ritter’s Lost Yellowjackets Episode
Are There Any Plans For It To Be Released?
Prior to Lynskey’s latest update on the episode, series co-creator Ashley Lyle acknowledged its existence in December 2023, prior to season 3’s release. She said that while the episode had been filmed, there were no direct plans to release it yet, although it seemed the possibility still existed.
However, now thatYellowjacketsseason 4has been confirmed, and the episode has yet to air, it’s unclear if plans are still in place for it. It’s possible the episode will come out at some point before the series ends, but it’s equally possible it won’t see the light of day.Yellowjacketsseason 3 endedon a major cliffhanger, with Natalie (Sophie Thatcher) finally using a radio to contact the outside world.

This implies the girls are close to going home in the teenage timeline, even with some mysteries in the wilderness left unresolved. Althoughthe context of Ritter’s bonus episode is unclear, it’s possible what happens in it involves big reveals for the story. If that’s the case, there could be a reason why the episode was filmed so long ago, but still hasn’t come out.
