An innovative player ofThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas built a whole new type of deadly mech.Tears of the Kingdomsets itself apart from the other games in theZeldacanon by giving players a set of abilities and tools to craft nearly any device they can imagine, including deadly mechs that can dispatch a group of foes with relative ease.

Tears of the Kingdomplayers have used these abilities and tools the game provides to let their creativity run wild. From incredible aircraft tobeautiful artistic displays of whirling star fragments, players are using the game’s various systems and mechanics to makeTears of the Kingdominto the game they want to play. The approach is a stark departure from the traditionalZeldaformula, where developers crafted a much more curated experience that asked players to follow pre-determined paths dotted with challenges that are to be overcome in specific ways. For some players, the way to solve a problem is by building an armored mech that can obliterate it in seconds. That’s exactly what a Reddit user by the name of The_Janeway_Effect did in a video clip posted to the game’s subreddit.Tears of the Kingdom’s Flux Construct 1 bossesare not the most difficult enemies in Hyrule, but after taking a few of them out, it’s nice to experiment to attempt to find new ways to smash them to bits. The_Janeway_Effect used the game’s Ultrahand and Autobuild abilities to combine various Zonai devices that are littered across the lands of Hyrule to build a highly mobile and deadly mech that dispatched the Flux Construct within seconds.

The_Janeway_Effect cleverly turned a Zonai weather balloon carriage on its side to act as a cockpit by attaching a steering stick between its inner-base and the slot where the balloon would normally sit. Zonai stabilizers act as the mech’s feet, which are attached to large Zonai wheels on a set of rotating platforms that can be found throughout the world. A canon anda couple of Zonai Beam Emittersfastened to the sides helped make quick work of the common boss.

While moddershave devised ways to playTears of the Kingdomin first-person, The_Janeway_Effect achieved the effect with clever mech design, whether it was intentional or not. As a third-person action game, the camera naturally wants to capture as much of the action as possible while remaining positioned behind Link. But by placing the balloon carriage behind Link, the camera struggles to keep him in frame. The best the camera can do is position itself within Link’s chest, simulating a first-person perspective.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available now on Nintendo Switch.
